DRFC to Celebrate the Club’s 60th Anniversary October 8-10, 2010 Five years after opening the Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse which saw the greatest gathering of Dartmouth rugby alumni and friends ever, the Club will be celebrating 60 years of Dartmouth Rugby over the weekend of October 8-10.  Events include a cocktail party/welcome reception on Friday evening sponsored by members of the NYC “Old Green” teams from the ‘70s and ‘80s, followed on Saturday by matches vs. Brown, dedication of the new “1959 California Touring Side” scoreboard, an alumni rugby match vs. Tuck, a gala dinner party in the Clubhouse and adjoining Tent, and sign-up opportunities for golfing outings on Sunday.  In addition, the New Hampshire foliage should be on full display. Big Green Win Royall Lyme Dartmouth 7s Presented by Rockwood   Ivy & Business School Teams Square Off in Sunday Sevens Invitational As collegiate and club rugby teams around the country are preparing in earnest for the summer seven-a-side season, Dartmouth hosted the Royall Lyme Dartmouth 7s Presented by Rockwood Services Corporation on Sunday for teams representing a mix of undergraduate and graduate Ivy League institutions.  Designed to give teams exposure to competitive sevens play, Dartmouth hosted teams from Brown, Harvard, Harvard Business school, and Tuck (Dartmouth’s business school) to compete.  While a team from Yale was also invited, transportation difficulties prevented them from participating on match day.

All-Ivy Barbarians Have Strong First Showing At NRU Cup   Players from Dartmouth, Harvard, Columbia and Yale Come Away With Win at First-Round NRU Selection The All-Ivy Barbarians assembled this weekend for an historic and inaugural entry into the NRU Cup in Albany, NY.  Players were selected by the Ivy League coaches following the Fall 2009 Ivy League competition structure.  Coaching the AIB squad this weekend were Ivy League coaches David Gonzales (Harvard), Mike Stevenson (Harvard) and Hayden James (Columbia). William Weber (Columbia) assisted as a team manager.  The All-Ivy Barbarians team kit and uniforms were provided by Kooga – Made for Rugby™.

Dartmouth Puts Up Strong Fight Against Mystic River, 11-26   Green Match Gulls’ Physicality, Put Structure to the Game Dartmouth faced off against the Mystic River Rugby Club on Mystic’s home field at Pine Banks Park in Malden, MA.  Conditions were ideal, allowing the Big Green to test all aspects of their game against one of the premier mens’ clubs in New England.

Green Retains Focus Despite Language Barrier, French Flare

On their third match in five days, the Big Green played host on Wednesday to a touring side from the Université de Toulouse.  Translation of the referee’s calls made things a little difficult at first, but once both teams got the hang of it they were able to put on quite a show for the crowd that had gathered at Brophy Field in Hanover for the match.

A brief feature on the All American 2010 Tour in England and their continued progression was just posted by Total Rugby. It features Dartmouth head coach Alex Magleby and his insights into the development of rugby in the US.

College Division I Premier Schedule Released

New Elite Collegiate Competition Moves One Step Closer To Launch

Dartmouth Rugby’s part in the inaugural season of USA Rugby’s Division I Premier League will kick off on March 5, with Dartmouth traveling down to Wilmington for their first game against the University of Delaware.

The regular season for the new 31-team competition will run through April 30.  Each team will play one game against each of the other teams in its conference. Most schools will play single-game weekends with Cal, BYU and Utah each playing one two-match weekend.  Post-season play starts on May 7 with the top two teams from each conference advancing to the playoffs. The championship final will be played on May 21.
